Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: Cloud Formations

Can't believe we've never read the famous, 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'.
What a fantastic book!
Loads of questions arose from this story, that demonstrated a books ability to stretch the imagination.
What about vegetarians? ("They would find another place to live!" says O)
Did the people of Chewandswallow have to pay for the food, arriving by sky?
Would soup arrive hot?
Did people fight over food?
Would this solve world hunger?

We started the study with some sensory play, using dried spaghetti and pasta shapes to make sculptures.

Baby C was excitable about showing off her creation!

Then we moved into more scientific study of cloud patterns and predictions. http://homeschooljabber.blogspot.ca/2012/05/cloudy-with-chance-of-meatballs-unit.html

One of the perks of homeschooling? The parent is also a student!
I have never learned about clouds in depth, so researching for this project has helped me learn something new too!
Albeit, the terminology is a bit advanced. Even I am having trouble remembering these cloud terms!.
However, the concept of cloud formations predicting weather, was absorbed easily.
Later in the day, we were out checking clouds and O was happily describing their shapes and levels in the sky.

Making Clouds. We did this project last May with much success. The shaving foam demonstrates a beautiful cloud!! https://mamadrool.blogspot.ca/2015/05/cloud-science.html
