Rainbow Rice

With little bits of food colouring left in stock, we whipped up Leprechaun Lucky Rice this afternoon.
Rainbow rice recipes run rampant on sensory sites and blogs; easy to make, cheap, provides open-ended play opportunity..and ours smells good too, as we added some essential oils ('Germ Fighter'; a combination of cloves, lavender, eucalyptus, lemon and cinnamon).

Simply divide raw rice into bowls, drip a few drops of colouring and mix well.
We spread ours on a baking tray so the colour sets, but there is still a high chance of getting some stain on our skin the next day.
You can add essential oils and sparkles to increase the sensory value.
Then consider magnets/metal items, chopsticks, toy cars, building blocks to increase imaginative, science and math opportunities.

Rainbow Spaghetti. Look how little O & C are in these pics! Back in Shanghai, we tried out Rainbow Spaghetti with great success http://mamadrool.blogspot.ca/2014/02/rainbow-spaghetti_18.html

Lavender Rice. I keep this mixture in a mason jar, whenever we're in need of a relaxing sensory pause. http://mamadrool.blogspot.ca/2014/07/loving-lavender.html
